How does your day begin?

I arise thirty minutes to an hour before sun up. The times change throughout the year, depending on seasons. I sleep with my shades open to the nature in the backyard, making it easy for my body to naturally want to get up as the light begins to change. Emerging from bed into the house, I open the windows to let in fresh air, rinse my face and add hydrosols, drink a few glasses of water, and then sit to meditate for 20 minutes. After this, I often feel really alert. If this is the case, I go onto the Rebounder for 5-10 minutes of jumping. Sometimes I may feel a little sluggish and on these days I allow myself to go back and lie in bed. I love this feeling of returning to the soft bed. On these days, I don’t fall back asleep but take this special time to breathe, and tune in with my body. The sitting meditation and lying down breathing are so helpful throughout the day.

What made you start using the rebounder?

Hyper Gravity–Negative Gravity!  Negative Gravity…Hyper Gravity! Every time I bounce, the body squeezes and expands; all the way down to the capillaries, cells, and channels of the lymph. It feels so good. I don’t even work out. I just like bouncing, outside in the Sun.

What is your favorite season?

Each Season has its loves for me. I just got back from five days of powder skiing at Mammoth Mountain. The winter elementals and snow offered some peak enjoyment. I also love the Sun and warm weather. I thrive on living in a sunny and mild climate. It just helps me feel productive and happy and optimistic. That being said, it’s a gift to visit all of the seasons.

What effect does light have on you?

Light has a huge effect on me. I spend daily time with sun on my skin. I’m fortunate to be able to do this year-round where I’m based in Santa Barbara. Even here, I notice and enjoy seasonal changes in the length of days. I don’t spend much time in front of blue light–computer screen, phone, TV, etc. Natural light feels great and carries information. Artificial light carries information too. Too much of the artificial light can feel a bit disorganizing. It’s a balance and a dance. Light Magic.

Do you use a guided meditation?

I used to spend most of my time in the Ethers, before starting Sun Potion. I was likely more comfortable swimming through the void of the internal realms than I would have been meeting people in a crowded room. Today I practice TM as a meditation tool. It helps me feel more comfortable while getting a lot of things done in a given day.

What do you use as a mantra for your meditations?

Acting as a background tape to my internal dialogue: “Show me my Divine Path of Service.”  Five years of that one lead to the inspiration of Sun Potion. Eight years of operating the brand, and I still enjoy this Mantra today.

What do you eat for breakfast?

I have tea, daily potion, tinctures, sometimes juice, sometimes coffee. On the weekends I like to have a nice French Breakfast.

Do you have a special diet you follow?

I joke about being a Selectitarian sometimes. In other words, wanting the best quality foods available. Organic and clean ingredients are a preferred baseline. I eat a lot of plants. I’m pretty adaptable beyond that. I have learned to listen to my body, and hear what feels good to eat and not eat. In a lot of ways, this internal discernment has come through having tea and herbs on a daily basis. I feel great when I eat one meal in the late afternoon or early evening. I don’t really keep up with the newest food ideologies, although I can appreciate that they may be helpful for people.

What is your favorite sun potion product?

We are releasing a line of new products to mark the eight year birthday of Sun Potion. These are liquid forms of the herbs which combine different types of extracts of that one herb. They are super powerful. I’ve been taking them while the liquids have been developed over the past 6 or 8 months. They are phenomenal. I’ve honestly never experienced anything like them. I feel great on these newly developed Sun Potion products and I’m super excited to share them with everyone. Feb/March ’19 release.

Have you ever lived abroad?

I attended a semester in Southwest China when I was 20 years old. I loved the culture, foods, people, and traditions.

What is your favorite potion to manage stress?

My goto favorites to manage stress and everything else in my world are: Mucuna Pruriens (15% L-dopa by weight–the chemical precursor to Dopamine in the nervous system), Reishi Mushroom (for an adaptable and robust immune system) and Pine Pollen (bio-identical Testosterone to support Androgen Hormone balance, brain function, and libido in both men and women).

Have you always been so grounded and calm?

Before learning how to ground through doing the manual tasks of operating Sun Potion, I was often ungrounded. I spent a lot of time in nature and that was really helpful. I also felt limited because I didn’t feel that comfortable being out in the world. Everything is a balance. I’m not always grounded and calm today either. Everything is a practice and there’s always improvements. From there, the rest is easy.

How did Sun Potion come to be?

Before starting Sun Potion, I was learning about Tonic Herbs and Adaptogens, and loved the way I felt while having them daily. I wanted best quality, single ingredient, and concentrated examples of these herbs that I was getting into. They could sometimes be found in capsules, or formulations, but were much more difficult to get in concentrated powder form. Sun Potion was a project idea to help make these materials more available. I figured if I loved these plants, others may want to try them. I like to think that I work for the plants, and that they want to be working with the people. The people may not realize how helpful the plants can be. At least if these plants are more widely available through Sun Potion, people can have an opportunity to experience these plants for themselves, and have their own experience of their effects. I love this idea.
