Heyday Skincare

Today we are sharing a “A Savoir Vivre Moment” with Michael Pollak, Chief Brand Officer and Co-Founder of Heyday Skincare. Heyday seeks to personalize skincare to create a positive impact in people’s lives! Who’s down?

Heyday Skincare

What time do you wake up?
It depends, but I like to be up by 6:30am. I love a morning workout. Problem is, I also love my second wind at night… And love my sleep. Gotta square that somehow, soon!

What do you have for breakfast?

Greek yogurt, blueberries, and this new chickpea-based granola I’m loving. Or, avocado toast with an egg on top. Made at home, so you know, it’s not $14.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee!!! Look, mad respect for tea, but I always associate it with feeling under the weather.

What is your morning routine?

I continue to tinker with it to make the most out of it. I love mornings. My partner and I just adopted a dog, so I’m getting used to waking up and taking the little guy out. I admire his ability to be groggy one minute and up-and-at-’em the next. I like quiet time to do a 5-minute meditation, write how I’m feeling for a few minutes, plan my day, read the news, have a coffee and breakfast. In an ideal world, I’d have a full 90 minutes to do my morning thing, plus an hour workout, but that isn’t always the reality. :-)

What do you do for exercise?

I love workouts. It’s my time to be alone, think, and push myself. I use an app called Future where a remote trainer loads workouts for the week ahead. I hit play, put on a good list of remixes, and go at it.

LA Space Heyday Skincare

What is on your current playlist?

Basically, Heyday music.

Do you have a beauty routine? What products do you use?

I mean, of course. Our team has me taking good care of my face! I use products from Heyday (and try new products we’re considering) and love a great cleanse in the morning and night, along with religiously moisturizing and wearing sunscreen. There’s more to my routine, but the one thing I’m super lazy about is toner or eye cream.

What is your favorite café? Where is it?

Oh gosh, so many. First one that comes to mind right now is Cafe Gitane in Nolita. Super cute, delicious, feels like you’re in Europe, and the server outfits look like vintage flight attendant uniforms, which I’m obsessed with.

What is your favorite restaurant? Where is it?

It’s no longer around, but it was PUBLIC, in Nolita. My first job in the city was for the design firm that owned it. We worked upstairs and were able to join the restaurant for staff meal every day at 5:15 and have a shift drink after. I knew that was special then, but looking back, it’s even more so. I had so many great memories dining there (and I haven’t even mentioned the food yet.)

How many emails do you get a day? How many do you respond to?

Too many. Not enough. 2019 is all about figuring out how to not be managed by an inbox, and for our company to do as much collaborating outside of an inbox as possible. I love technology and what it’s unlocked for the human race, but I think it’s been fairly punishing in many ways. Neither our minds nor the clock have evolved at the rate technology has, and I think it’s impacted our mental health massively. I digress.

What is the last book you read?

I always say at some point in life, hopefully soon, I’ll get back to fiction… 2018 was What Happened and a slew of leadership/business books. Maybe I should have some more escapism in 2019.

What is the last thing you watched on Netflix?

Roma. A beautiful film. Makes you really feel how big and small we all are at the same time, depending on the moment.

What is your go-to homemade meal?

Roasted chicken and roasted vegetables. Love the oven! My partner and I recently watched that awesome food doc, Salt Fat Acid Head, and Samin’s buttermilk roasted chicken is out of this world. And so easy.

What is your drink of choice?

Coffee by day. A paper plane by evening.

What is your biggest vice?

Pastries, for sure. So hard.

What time do you go to bed?

Too late. I get a second wind around 10pm that is very productive for work and my partner calls it “tornado mode” with tidying the apartment. I really love going to bed with everything in its place, but I also like waking up before everyone else. Need to reconcile that!

Bedtime ritual?

The skincare routine. :-) And aforementioned tidying of all the things.

What do you do to relax?

It sounds strange, but I found housework very relaxing and rewarding. You can’t do it with a phone in your hand. A good project around the house relaxes me, too.

NYC or LA?

Love both. So many of my friends have migrated to LA, so visiting has felt more native in recent years. They both have such different energy and it’s nice to be able to tap both. New York has a speed that’s addictive. LA has the opportunity for me to sing horrifically at the top of my lungs in a rental car where no one will hear it.

Where would you like to travel to that you have never been?

Iceland, Patagonia, New Zealand… I love the end-of-the-Earth destinations and need to get to some of them!

Beach or mountains?

Very tough! Both fill you with possibility; the beach is relaxing, the mountains are a reminder of how small we are and.

Where is the most special place in the world to you?

What a big question. In the past few years, it’s been our place upstate, just outside the city. It’s a respite from the busy-ness of the week, the people-intensity of my business and New York City in general. I never thought I’d be a rural person, but I can’t get enough of the trees and quiet.

Good Vibes Potion : Sage & Rose Face Mist by Fat and the Moon

Fat&MoonRoseSageMist2.jpg

It’s hot and humid, you feel sticky and honestly kinda gross, you’re in need of some good vibes. Or maybe you’re just sleepy and feel a bit crusty. I have found your cure, it’s called the Fat and the Moon “Sage & Rose Face Mist.” I honestly believe this spray could cure any ailment. Fat and the Moon calls it “the mid afternoon crash antidote,” and I couldn’t agree anymore.

So what’s in this magic spray? The potion is predominantly made up of a distilled Rose Geranium – one that yields a very high quality hydrosol (a pure healing water produced during distillation). This hydrosol works as a gentle toner that helps to “revive the skin” and “keep pore clogging bacteria in check.” And let’s not forget the sage!!! This potion includes Clary sage, which serves as a very gentle astringent, getting rid of those bad vibes. And finally – last but not least, a bit of Jojoba oil to keep the skin supple. Click here to get your hands on it.

I would assume you’re convinced, so let me help you get your hands on this awesome product and the other amazing products Fat and the Moon has to offer with a discount code – JESSIE. Go get your Savoir Vivre vibes on!

Free Persephone {your spa oasis in saint germain des pres}

faec693c7255143010cd569b2c0bd7f1_XL.jpg

Last year thanks to My Little Paris, I discovered a lovely little place called Free Persephone. They were having a Spritz Pedicure Special post the summer holidays, and of course I needed to take part. Little did I know this experience would be so much more than just a pedicure an an Aperol Spritz. I fell immediately in love with this spa oasis in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

Today I had the luck of returning to Free Persephone for an Essential Manicure and it was sheer bliss. From start to finish I felt like a princess. Upon arrival, I was offered their special infusion tea of the day, a black tea with orange flowers. Oh la la how fabulously delicious. I was then accompanied by my manicurist to my spa chair and was waited on literally by hand and foot. Not to mention the quality of my manicure was superb.

34.4 Skin Care Naturally {aware and conscious beauty products that are all natural, made by hand and supporting the natural beekeeping trust}

ArticleImage.jpg

Last weekend while strolling through Broadway Market in London, I stumbled upon a true gem. Even though Elka was shutting down for the day, she quickly attended to the presence of a new customer at her stand. Intrigued by the various beauty products, like none I had seen before, I asked Elka, brand owner and founder, for a more information. Little did I know, there was quite a lot to know about this skin care brand.

344skincare_02_0.jpg

34.4 is a all natural skin care brand for women and men. All products are created by hand and are 100% all natural. Every sale supports the Natural Beekeeping Trust (an enterprise “hoping to inspire people to live in peace with the bees, be good hosts to them, guard them and grow for them, in all ways imaginable”) and is a registered Social Enterprise. Elka and her team see business as having an impact on both the individuals who work within it as well as the wider community. Another awesome anecdote – their products are tested on friends, not animals. And why the name? Well, it’s the optimum temperature for a brood to thrive in the heart of the beehive and the percentage (3.44%) that is donated to the Trust.

344bee_0.jpg

So what product did I select?  Face No. 2 – an easily absorbed, light moisturiser, made with beeswax and honey blended with apricot kernel oil and coconut oil that is hydrating and even makes your skin radiate (if I do say so myself). The product can also be used as a makeup base, and it works excellently. Even cooler – 34.4º has a Cradle to Cradle® policy, meaning for every six empty black containers returned to them, you’ll be sent one free product of your choice. I can’t wait to try more of their products, as I truly believe in everything this wonderful brand stands for. Please check out their website for more information and stay tuned for some collaborative work together.

Warrior Yoga A-Z {yoga that gets your cardio on & info on it’s inspiring founders aria and gus}

25659709_10156955313668574_6605701029493339270_n.jpg

Even if you listen softly, word on the street in Paris in the yoga world is that Warrior Yoga is the new best thing. If you haven’t tried it, you’re maybe asking yourself why? What is this famous “Warrior Yoga”? Who are Aria and Gus (the founders)? And why should I try it? Well here’s the inside scoop on why I highly recommend, without any reservation to give this magical practice a shot.

24991323_10156913430363574_6861005750803850821_n

For starters, Warrior Yoga is built on foundational strength, that allows you to boost your confidence. This practice teaches you how to progress quickly into postures you thought were physically impossible. Aria and Gus combine a series of flexibility-focused asanas that allow you to move into inversions and arm balances with care and ease. Their mantra: “I can”. While this practice is not “easy”, the answer is never no. Aria and Gus push their students to try even the most difficult postures (with their assistance), in order to go above and beyond. Personally, Warrior Yoga has given me the confidence to go far beyond my perceived physical abilities and impress myself with an advanced practice that has evolved very quickly. But let’s not forget about Aria and Gus themselves – the incredibly fascinating and inspiring duo, and founders of this practice.

02.jpg

A musician, Aria (@aria.official) started yoga over 15 years ago when while living in LA working in the entertainment industry. It allowed her to find balance and sanity in this chaotic world. She knew immediately she needed to share this sense of revelation she found through yoga with the world, and soon found herself completing several teacher trainings. For more information on Aria’s spiritual and historical past, please get your hands on a copy of her book, “Aria, the Healthy Book.”  Here you will learn about her past as a dancer in Crazy Horse, her time spent in LA working in the music industry and most importantly the impact yoga has made on her life. Cool side note – you will also learn yoga postures and her favorite superfoods and vitamins. This book gives us a true inside look on this beautiful person inside and out. And for the absolutely wonderful Gus (@yogawithguys). A former martial arts, jujitsu and gymnastics master, Gus traveled the world from a very young age to train. This very physical background gave him him the facility to take on a new discipline – yoga. Gus discovered yoga when he met Aria, a discovery that was followed by a transformation changing his life forever. His body became stronger and more flexible, and his mind became even more balanced.

26172678_10156989492438574_6222527434640743810_o.jpg

Together this incredible duo is taking the yoga world by storm. Warrior Yoga has taken off in Paris, and Aria and Gus are now taking their concept global. They were recently in Australia, traveling the entire country and introducing Warrior Yoga to a new audience. The duo teach classes all over Paris and have many upcoming retreats all over the world. Practicing with them will surely change your mindset and internal confidence, and a retreat with them will most certainly change your life. It changed mine. For more information please check out their site, and follow them on Instagram. Click below to purchase Aria’s book.

Relax and Detox {with yogandha oils that really make you feel a lot of good vibrations}

Screen Shot 2018-01-20 at 7.26.37 AM

I must admit, I am not a huge product user. I am pretty basic when it comes to skin care, but these oils have made me WANT to take those extra 5 minutes. Not only because these oils are excellent for the skin and 100% organic, but because these potions actually make you feel something. Being that Yogandha oils are 100% natural, they are absorbed directly into the body for the maximum effect. After having discovered the muscle sooth oil at my yoga studio, I was immediately addicted. Not yet convinced? Well this particular oil was formulated through 3 years of meditation by yoga teacher, Sinead Duffy, to soothe soothe and care for your body. AKA I can assure you (and basically prove to you) that it brings you to a state of equilibrium mentally and physically post use. That being said, I knew it was time to get my hands on the detox and relax oils.

3oils-77866652-1516427789689.jpg

These two babies are sheer magic. First, I tried the relax oil, intended to be used as part of your daily wind down routine. The mixture of lavender, providing a mild sedative quality, and blue chamomile, encouraging stillness and reflection, allowed me to chill with ease and comfort. I sincerely felt more relaxed and all around lighter before quietly ending a chaotic day. Detox provided for a likewise (very positive) experience. According to Yoghanda, this Gandha ritual is a moment of self connection before you start your day, and boy were they were right. The cleansing juniper berry wholeheartedly yielded a purifying and detoxifying sensation all throughout my body. Not to mention the mixture of ingredients are incredibly beneficial to the body – juniper berry is an antioxidant, lemongrass stimulates the kidneys (also is thought to help lower cholesterol) and sweet fennel is a great for the digestive system. Yogandha – I heart you. For more info on the concept, the owner and how to purchase these beauties please check out their website.
